About Me

~

My name is Shelley Peddie and I am a qualified counsellor and a member of the BACP. I started my counselling journey when I accessed support myself at the age of 18. It was then that I really understood the importance of being open with your feelings and how much you can benefit from having someone to listen without judgement. At times, exploring my thoughts and experiences wasn’t easy but it enabled me to grow in both resilience and confidence which helped me to move forward.

I found the process so beneficial that I embarked on my own training to become a counsellor. I have always had a passion for working with children and young people so it felt natural to work therapeutically in this field. During my training and since qualifying I have worked at a local mental health charity as a children and young person’s counsellor as well as working in private practice.

I consider my approach to therapy to be gentle and I ensure that I work at the client’s pace. I pride myself on offering a safe, welcoming and confidential environment for clients to explore whatever difficulties they may be facing. I have experience in working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, addiction and childhood trauma. I have experience of working with clients that have autism, ADHD and sight loss.  I have also completed various CPD training including child exploitation, LGBT awareness and adverse childhood experiences. I have also completed a training course for online and telephone counselling.

I offer counselling to both adults and young people on a 1:1 basis either online or in person to allow flexibility so that counselling can be accessed with ease. I also host wellbeing groups for people with similar situations to meet and discuss their experiences in a safe and supportive environment. The well-being classes running currently are for new parents and another for carers.

Starting counselling or a new group can feel daunting to begin but please be assured that I am on hand to answer any questions and to help you feel at ease, I will work at your pace so you can take your time on your counselling journey. Please contact me through the contact button at the top of the page to make your appointment today.
